Blog: What’s a warmist to do?.

Thomas Lifson

b1-end-is-nigh-ah_s160x216Warmism – the belief that CO2 emissions are dangerously warming the earth – gets all the propaganda support the mainstream media can offer, and yet the public stubbornly refuses to give a damn. It must be terribly frustrating for Al Gore and all the others who have hitched their wagons to this theory. Patrick Michaels outlines the problem they face at Forbes. He uses a recent example of two research papers published, one linking global warming to some new horror, and the other pointing out the evidence is inconclusive. The alarmist paper got all the media coverage. Michaels dubs this “asymmetric” coverage:

The type of global warming science reported to the public grows asymmetrically, with alarming evidence receiving far more exposure than evidence for more modest changes and impacts, or, climate-as-usual.

And what’s the bottom line? People still don’t give a darn.

The prestigious National Opinion Research Center (NORC), located at the University of Chicago, just released a report on what it calls “priority worries”.

Given a list of 8 “problems”, only 3.6 per cent of Americans rank “Environment” as their highest priority. Within a sub-list of seven environmental “problems”, 19.6% rate climate change as “extremely dangerous”, where it ranks fourth out of the seven.

My greener friends are convinced that this is all because of the mean old Koch brothers. But if that’s true, they must have huge propaganda operations inFinlandSwitzerlandSweden, Denmark, Norway, Flanders, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia and France, where even lower percents rate climate change as “extremely dangerous”. And they must be really active in Argentina (despite its nationalized oil companies), where environment ties for dead last among the eight issues, and only 5.9 per cent of the respondents ranked it as the most important environmental problem. (Weirdly enough, it ranks absolute lowest in Israel).

greenenergyNor have the numbers really budged much….

You might say that climate alarmism has lost its traction. The public is now inured to claims of impending disaster. Americans didn’t take seriously the Obama administration rhetoric on sequester  either. Crisis fatigue has set in.

Warmism may have completely lost traction. The medicine isn’t working, and increasing the dosage won’t help. The poor warmists are becoming pathetic.

Inaugural Lies and the Big Chill – Tea Party Nation

Inaugural Lies and the Big Chill – Tea Party Nation.

By Alan Caruba

In his second inaugural speech, Barack Obama said, “We must respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations”?

To what “climate change” is Obama referring? Is it the now thoroughly debunked “global warming” hoax? Is it the climate change of the 11,500 years since the last ice age? Or is it “the devastating impact of raging fires, and crippling drought, and more powerful storms” to which Obama referred?

If it is the latter, does anyone actually believe that these natural events can be mitigated by anything Americans or the entire population of the world can do? Did any among the thousands in attendance at the inauguration, shivering in the frigid weather, wonder what the President was talking about or why?

After more than three decades of being told that the Earth was dangerously heating up by people like Al Gore and the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, there are more voices warning that the current cold cycle that will last, at a minimum, several decades.

The public continues to be misled to the mainstream media and, more importantly, by the federal government whose increased environmental regulations are based on the global warming lies, so who can you believe?

Publications such as Science magazine have been so politicized at this point as to be virtually useless. Roger Pielke Jr., a professor of environmental studies, recently released a study that updates his study of the magazine, noted that “In a 2009 paper I documented that Science magazine published 40 editorials critical of the Bush Administration during its two terms, and only 1 such critique of the Clinton Administration’s previous 2 terms. I have just updated this analysis through the first term of the Obama Administration, and found no editorials critical of the Obama Administration.”

It should be noted that Obama routinely refers to “climate change”, the new name for “global warming”, and has already wasted billions on “renewable” energy, wind and solar, including algae, otherwise known as pond scum. The Obama EPA is releasing an avalanche of new regulations based in part on the “global warming” myths and dubious “science” regarding levels of pollution that are worthless.

Recently I received a book by John L. Casey, “Cold Sun: A Dangerous ‘Hibernation’ of the Sun Has Begun” ($14.50, Trafford Publishing, softcover), the president of the Space and Science Research Corporation (SPSC). It is essentially a one-man operation and Casey’s book is an effort to warn the public about the fact that the sun has entered a cycle of very low sunspot activity. More sunspots mean warming weather and fewer mean cold weather. SPSC has the support of a number of scientists who concur that the planet has entered a cooling cycle, something well known to meteorologists, climatologists, and solar scientists, even if it remains generally unknown to the public.

Casey has been issuing press releases since 2007 warning of a decades-long period of cooling that will likely have some extremely serious effects on the planet that include droughts, increased volcanic activity, earthquakes, and the death of millions as the history of such events in the past demonstrates. He is candid about his credentials and the lack of response he has gotten from the media and those in the government he has tried to inform.

Of one release, he says that “In fact, it was seen with even less credulity since it was proposed by someone essentially unknown in the professional climate science community, a person without any past record of university research and not one published paper in any scientific journal.” It would be easy to dismiss Casey, but he has been a consultant to NASA, “performing space shuttle and space station analysis” and done studies for the Department of Defense “performing rocket launch studies.” He has a BS degree in physics and mathematics and a MA in management. So it can be said he has extensive experience in areas that require a sound body of knowledge.

Others are also forecasting a serious cold cycle. In January 2012, Habilbullo Abdusamatov, a scientist from the Pulkovo Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences predicted a sharp drop in temperature starting in 2014 and a new “little” ice age that will last at least two centuries with a peak in 2055. It would be the fifth such event over the past nine centuries, the last of which lasted from 1300 to 1850 when the last warming cycle began.

In January 2012, Wall Street Journal science columnist Matt Ridley, noted that the cycle of warm weather between ice ages that the Earth has been enjoying “is already 11,600 years old, and it must surely in the normal course of things, come to an end.”

One of the leading authorities on ice ages, Robert W. Felix, author of “Not By Fire, But By Ice”, like Casey, became fascinated with ice age cycles and spent eight years studying them before publishing his book in 2005. He maintains a website, www.iceagenow.info that is well worth visiting as he documents the weather events of our current cold cycle and the advent of a new ice age.

Casey’s book reflects his mission to educate the public to the dangers of a sun whose low number of sunspots (magnetic storms) is well known among solar scientists and generally under-reported. “This particular solar cycle (#24) peak is one of the lowest since cycle #14 in 1906 which had approximately 64 sunspots,” Casey told me. “We measure each solar maximum every eleven years to determine the average of solar activity by sunspot count. We have had solar maximums in the past there were over 200 sunspots and some as low as 50. The relevance of information about the number of sunspots is that when the count goes below 50 we enter a much colder climate era.”

Some will dismiss Casey for not having the credentials of climatologists and meteorologists. Many with these credentials jumped on the global warming hoax by way of securing grants and other funding. A courageous few debunked global warming until it became obvious that it was a lie. There will be those who will dismiss his warning as hyperbole. In “Cold Sun” he says “A historic reduction in the energy output of the Sun has begun. The most likely outcome from this ‘solar hibernation’ will be widespread global loss of life and social, economic, and political disruption.”

As the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) said, “All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.” It is very likely that as the current cooling cycle—now over 16 years old—wlll increase, Robert W. Felix’s, Casey’s, and others with traditional credentials in meteorology, climatology, geology and physics will eventually be heeded and the Big Chill will have become self-evident.

The Climate Change Lies Ramp Up Again – Tea Party Nation

The Climate Change Lies Ramp Up Again – Tea Party Nation.

By Alan Caruba

Within days of the election, Rasmussen Reports said that “While there was little talk of climate change during the president campaign, the number of U.S. voters who see global warming as a serious problem is at an all-time high

A survey reported on November 9th found that “68% of likely U.S. voters now say that global warming is at least a somewhat serious problem, including 38% who think it is very serious. Thirty percent (30%) don’t see global warming as a serious problem, with 12% who think it’s not serious at all.”
There’s nothing like a devastating Hurricane Sandy and a follow-up “nor’easter” to get people thinking that “climate” is changing, but the simple unadorned fact is that the Earth has been in a cooling cycle since 1998. It’s getting colder all over the world.

Meteorologist Tim Kelley says “Sandy is not an unprecedented storm. The 1938 hurricane was worse, and was followed by major hurricanes in 1944 and 1954; three major hurricanes in 16 years. We are fortunate to have gone nearly 60 years without a comparable storm here in the northeast.”
“The alarm and fear of anthropogenic (manmade) global warming is a major distraction,” said Kelley, “and a waste of resources that could otherwise go to helping humanity.” There are some simple truths that most people just don’t get. “Heat on Earth comes from our Sun and is stored in our oceans. Small fluctuations in solar and oceanic cycles draft any impact on climate when compared to the influence of anthropogenic CO2.”

“From a scientific perspective,” says Kelley, “it’s almost unfathomable that we have been duped into believing the scare generated by climate change alarmists.” And, yet, clearly a lot of people have been and continue to be duped.

So, like a zombie, climate change is back after the politicians managed to say nothing about it during the long campaign, plus three presidential debates and one vice presidential debate. It has been around since 1988. The greatest charlatan and buffoon the political class has produced, Al Gore, became the face of the global warming hoax. In 2009, when the emails between the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) scientists were exposed, it became clear that they were fearful that the new cooling cycle would end their grants and funding.

Headlines blared regarding the hoax and then they were forgotten, ignored.

No matter how many times the facts are presented, the global warming/climate change liars just produce some new report or study proclaiming that “97% of climate experts agree that humanity is causing global warming and other problematic climate change because of our greenhouse gas emissions.” That was the message of the Doran/Zimmerman global warming poll in April 2008 and published in January 2009. As Tom Harris of the International Climate Science Coalition pointed out, the survey has been thorough debunked. It doesn’t matter.

Just after the election, Environmental Defense Fund president, Fred Krupp, congratulated President Obama on reelection, saying he expects the 113th Congress to “make global climate change” a top priority.

Friends of the Earth, another environmental powerhouse, expressed similar thoughts. “In his acceptance speech, President Obama acknowledged the ‘destructive power of a warming planet.’ It is ironic that the outcome of a campaign so marked by the silence of both candidates would be definitively influenced by Superstorm Sandy, but history will show that the winds of Hurricane Sandy blew President Obama back into office.”

Surely some voters looked at the hurricane and concluded that it was “proof” of global warming and/or climate change. It was only proof that hurricanes have been occurring before and since the dawn of mankind.

It was proof of the gullibility, the ignorance of simple facts about the climate, that vast multitudes of Americans have been indoctrinated to believe when they attended school and by the constant media exposure of the repeated lies about global warming.

Ignored in the midst of this is the way such lies get translated into government policies that do immeasurable harm to the economy.

The Competitive Enterprise Institute called on President Obama to take reasoned steps
– Suspend and re-open the rulemaking process for the EPA’s greenhouse gas emissions regulations and other major Clean Air Act rules designed to close coal-fired power plants and raise electric rates and cancel the revised offshore drilling plan and revert to the much-more-ambitious 2008 plan.

- Open the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil exploration

- Approve the Keystone XL Pipeline

- Stop the EPA from interfering in state regulation of hydraulic fracturing.

- Suspend the Renewable Futures Standard for 2013 so corn prices can stabilize and

- Suspend, for obvious reasons, the Department of Energy’s loan guarantee program to “green” energy companies.

That’s the real impact of all the climate change hogwash. Hurricane Sandy left a wide swath of Americans in the dark prior to and during the election. The bunkum about greenhouse gas emissions will impede the steps the nation must take to ensure sufficient energy to keep the lights on from coast to coast.

Voters Abandon Global Warming Fears – Tea Party Nation

Voters Abandon Global Warming Fears – Tea Party Nation.

By Alan Caruba

Former President Jimmy Carter will address the Democratic Party convention via a televised address, but former Vice President Al Gore and candidate for President will be no where in sight.

The leading advocate for global warning will be conspicuous in his absence, but that doesn’t mean that the greatest hoax of modern times will not be mentioned. It has been a consistent theme of the Obama administration, particularly to justify the Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to attack the energy and business sectors of the nation’s economy.

As this is being written, the morning of the start of the Democratic Party convention, one wonders if the tired, thoroughly debunked claims that carbon dioxide (CO2) is causing a warming that does not exist and that humans are also causing it will be mentioned.

On the night that Obama had won his primary victory over Hillary Clinton’s bid to be the party’s presidential candidate, among his promises and claims, he said, “This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.” You cannot get more absurd than that. It would translate into the administration’s push for cap-and-trade legislation (regarding CO2 emissions) that was rejected by a Democrat-controlled Senate.

Obama’s claim did not go unnoticed by Mitt Romney who, during his acceptance speech, said, “President Obama promised to slow the rise of the oceans and to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family.” The global warming hustlers were apoplectic in their denunciations of Romney, but his promise received a standing ovation.

The administration has become famous for the billions wasted on so-called green jobs, green energy, and controlling greenhouse gases. It is essential to understand that CO2 has never caused any of the warming cycles the Earth has been through over 4.5 billion years. It shows up after climate cycle change occurs. Moreover, the oceans that cover 71% of the Earth surface both stores and releases CO2.

Prior to Earth Day in 2011, a Gallup poll revealed just how Americans felt about various environmental issues. Asked about a variety of concerns, the respondents rated global warming dead last with 48% saying they were either not much or not at all concerned about it.

The decades of apocalyptic claims and warnings have given way to reality. There have been no massive famines, no complete melting of the north or south poles, no increase in natural phenomenon such as hurricanes, no mass extinctions of various species. By 1998, the planet began a new cooling cycle, one that panicked the perpetrators of the global warming myth.

In 2009, the leak of emails between the researchers whose deliberately false “data” was the basis for global warming claims revealed that the cabal behind the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports were plotting to suppress the truth. The leak would become known as “Climategate.”

Just prior to the Democratic Party convention, President Obama issued yet another Executive Order, this one calling for “investment”, i.e., more spending, on cogeneration plants in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by deploying “cleaner and more efficient energy production in the country by working around political resistance to climate change and ‘green’ energy legislation on Capitol Hill.”

In reality, you cannot “save” energy. You can only use less of it and the Obama administration has done everything in its power to ensure that there will be less by deterring the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada—estimated to generate 20,000 new jobs—and by waging a war on coal. Coal mines and coal-fired plants are being closed. Oil continues to be discovered in the U.S. but not on federally controlled lands, nor can it be explored and extracted offshore where billions of barrels exist.

In effect, the Obama administration has been the most anti-energy administration in recent times while, at the same time, wasting billions on solar energy companies that have gone bankrupt and on wind power which, combined, represent less than 3% of the electricity generated nationwide and which would not exist were they were not, like ethanol, completely dependent on government mandates and subsidies.

It will be interesting to see how many of the convention speakers make any reference to global warming, carbon dioxide, or the real sources of energy, coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear power..

Throwing a bone to the environmentalists, it is likely that President Obama will make a passing reference to global warming and energy, but it is not likely that the “planet will begin to heal” as it grows colder in a completely natural cooling cycle that threatens to tip over into a new ice age.

There are real problems to be addressed, high unemployment, a lagging “recovery”, a fiscal crisis that will occur on January 1st unless Congress acts to extend tax cuts and puts off a massive sequestration of funding to defense and other sectors. In the end, it is likely we will be told that the last four years were all George W. Bush’s fault.

Al Gore Did Not Invent The Internet! – Tea Party Nation

Al Gore Did Not Invent The Internet! – Tea Party Nation.

Posted by John Wiseman

One of the frustrations when discussing economics with a liberal is simply getting them to except the basic tenets of reality. What I so dismissively refer to as frustration, is really the urge to bang my forehead as hard as I can into a brick wall while simultaneously placing my wet and salted fingers into the nearest electric socket. Often, the debate will take one of a very few turns, my favorite among them is what does a government actually produce.

One of the basic differences between the Austrian and Keynesian schools of thought is which is more important to a nation’s wealth, its aggregate spending or its total productivity. I agree with the former group, the Austrians, who will tell us that wealth is not dependent on what is spent, but on what a society actually creates, meaning its productivity. Believe it or not, I am often able to get my adversaries to accept this premise, but the breakdown occurs when we discuss what is created by governments.

Governments you see, produce nothing. That is not the same as saying that they accomplish nothing, the two statements are different. Governments accomplish certain very limited things, and to date I see no way to take those things from their fat and bloated hands. National defense, rule of law, maintenance of our currency, provision of a set of rules to promote transparency and prevent fraud are included in that very limited set of responsibilities. Out side of that, the government has shown a unique ability to screw up everything else it touches. Every thing else the government involves itself in is paid for only by its ability to destroy wealth, which means to forcibly confiscate the fruits of the labor of its citizens. Those roads and bridges offered up as this wonderful infrastructure that was magically created by our government, was only built due to the government’s ability to hire private construction companies and to pay them off with wealth confiscated from private citizens, who they then denigrate as being ungrateful members of the 1% class of, “rich,” people.

Sooner or later during this turn of our debate, I’ll get what the liberal often feels is the ultimate atomic bomb of debate lobbed in my direction. Government is responsible for creating the internet. What will follow this is a smug look of ultimate debate ending victory. I will answer with a quick, “baloney,” which provokes an odd combination of surprise, incredulous disbelief, arrogance, and doubt. For a single solitary moment, I’ll get to glimpse into the eyes of someone who has just realized, and for the first time, that their atomic bomb may have turned out to be a fizzle.

If your are interested in how the internet really started, then click the link I provided at the beginning of this sentence. It will take you to a Wall Street Journal article that gives an accurate description of how private enterprise was able to create the internet, only after our government mishandled the technology for the better part of 4 decades. The internet came about because once the government took itself out of the way of private enterprise, property rights, risk/reward ratios, ingenuity, an entrepreneurial spirit, and every other component of the free market system was able to follow Adam Smith’s invisible hand to the greatest creation of wealth ever seen in human history.

It is true that DARPA began networking computers, and did so well ahead of the private sector. It is also true however that private enterprise began networking computers independently of the government’s efforts. In 1970, Gene Amdahl of Sunnyvale, California, began selling his Amdahl 370 computers to private businesses located near college campuses across the country that had top tier systems engineering departments. He was able to show other companies who wanted to use computers for their own businesses how they could save a fortune by buying smaller mini computer systems of their own, rather than a main frame, and use a remote connection to the larger main frame computer for the bulk of their computing work. He was a visionary, and with a bunch of these mini hubs of computing power spotted throughout the country. One example was Compuserv in Columbus, Ohio. He sold Compuserv 3 Amdahl 370′s, and then sold Univax PDP 11′s to AT&T, Bank One, Battelle, Ross Labs, Worthington Industries, etc. What we had thanks to Gene Amdahl’s vision was a growing network of private enterprises connected to a central web of computing power, capable of talking not only with the hubs, but with each other. It took no more than a decade for the individual hubs to connect to each other, and for DARPA to begin using the larger system as well.

Yes, certain aspects of formatting and programming were accomplished by the Department of Defense, but their contributions languished at the hands of governmental ineffectiveness for a very long time. The internet was developed in spite of the U.S. government, and not as a result of it. This particular piece of misinformation bothers me for a few reasons. One, while it is so egregiously wrong, it is repeated back to me as though it came from the Gospel itself. Two, it completely disregards the accomplishment of free enterprise and those people who choose to embrace all that is possible within the free market system. Gene Amdahl brought the internet to people capable of affording a mini frame computer, mostly large businesses, and Steve Jobs brought the internet to private home users, or folks who could afford a micro computer. Three, and perhaps most important, it gives credit for the single greatest wealth creation in human history to the very entity which did everything possible to prevent that creation from occurring in the first place. Believing that this was a government creation is in fact dangerous thinking.

The Mother of All Hoaxes – Tea Party Nation

The Mother of All Hoaxes – Tea Party Nation.

By Alan Caruba

There was a brief flurry of stories in the media at the beginning of what has become a historic summer of hot weather across the U.S. that global warming was to blame. They faded swiftly because the public has concluded that global warming is the mother of all hoaxes, because we are in the midst of a failing economy and the political campaigns that will decide if the nation literally lives or dies.

This has not stopped the Public Broadcast System’s News Hour from airing a new series “on how climate change in the Pacific Northwest is affecting the region’s Native American Indian tribes—flooding their reservations and threatening the region’s salmon fisheries.” Climate change is shorthand for global warming.

While the nation’s media continues to propagate the hoax, what hope is there for the TRUTH?

Significantly “the NewsHour’s year-long Coping with Climate Change series is funded by a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation.” The nation’s leading foundations have been funding the global warming hoax for decades and continue to do so.

So one more article about the deception and duplicity of global warming may seem superfluous and it would be if the U.S. Air Force wasn’t spending $59 per gallon of “green biofuel” and the U.S. Navy wasn’t doing the same for its Great Green Fleet. The justification for this is the utterly false assertion that “alternatives” are needed in the event we can’t produce or import petroleum.

The U.S. is floating on an ocean of oil, but for now it can only be extracted from lands owned privately because the Obama administration has done everything in its power to restrict access to it on federally owned lands and, of course, the billions of barrels locked up off-shore.

In exactly the same way that the Obama administration has presided over the loss of billions in subsidies and loan guarantees for the solar panel companies or the ridiculous costs of wind power industry compared to a single coal-burning plant, at the heart of it all has been the claim the global warming is caused by “greenhouse gas” emissions, carbon dioxide, that imperil the Earth.

Recently, my friend Joseph L. Bast, the president of The Heartland Institute, wrote an article, “IPCC Admits Its Past Reports Were Junk”, posted on AmericanThinker.com.

It struck me that very few people even know that IPCC is the acronym for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Few people know that the entire global warming hoax was generated by the IPCC, let alone know what it is.

Most people associate global warming with Al Gore who has been among its most prominent advocates, warning that “the Earth has a fever” and that we were doomed if we didn’t stop generating carbon dioxide. Gore and his collaborators wanted to sell “carbon credits” in exchanges around the world and for a while he greatly enriched himself.

In Australia, the government has imposed a tax on carbon dioxide which it likely to destroy its manufacturing base along with the extraction of coal and other minerals.

Here in the U.S. the Environmental Protection Agency continues to assert that carbon dioxide must be regulated as a “pollutant” under the Clean Air Act and, if successful, will likewise destroy what is left of our manufacturing base and all other industries that generate or use energy to function.

And the man in the street remains completely clueless about the impending ruin of the nation based on the reports of the IPCC which the Inter-Academy Council (IAC), a group created by the world’s science academies to provide advice to international bodies, has long since concluded were utterly false and baseless.

On June 27, the IPCC issued a statement saying it had completed the process of implementation of the recommendations that an August 2010 IAC analysis had made after examining who was contributing to their reports, who was reviewing their content (the same people!), and the astonishing, utterly false, claim of “a consensus” that global warming was happening.

As Bast points out, “It means that all of the ‘endorsements’ of the climate consensus made by the world’s national academies of science—which invariably refer to the reports of the IPCC as their scientific basis—were based on false or unreliable data and therefore should be disregarded or revised.”

“It means that the EPA’s ‘endangerment finding’—with its claim that carbon dioxide is a pollutant and threat to human health—was wrong and should be overturned.”

It is a terrible thing to live in a nation governed by falsehoods, spending the public wealth on useless technologies, living under the tyranny of government departments and agencies pursuing those lies for their own agendas and political masters.

Unless the harm perpetrated in the name of global warming is reversed, we shall all remain the victims of the United Nations IPCC, the EPA, and all other entities seeking to control every aspect of our lives.

The poles are not melting, the glaciers are growing, the oceans rise mere millimeters over centuries, and right now planet Earth is cooling.

EDITORIAL: Blowing smoke over global warming – Washington Times

EDITORIAL: Blowing smoke over global warming – Washington Times.

Legend has it that Washington was built on a swamp, and its sweltering summers add credence to the story. Lately, global warming adherents have been capitalizing on the city’s sultry weather to advance their belief that the use of fossil fuels is responsible for rising temperatures baking the planet. Beware of warmists who point to localized summer heat as proof of climate change across the entire world: They’re only making hay while the sun shines.

Eco-ideologist Al Gore posted an account on his blog Friday of a US Airways passenger jet becoming stuck at Reagan National Airport when its tires sank into the heat-softened tarmac while waiting to take off. Temperatures reached 100 degrees at the airport on July 6 when the incident occurred. A passenger with a phone camera posted a photo of the trapped plane, which Mr. Gore used to bolster his argument that carbon dioxide — the gas essential for all plant and animal life — is capturing the sun’s heat and threatening the global ecosystem.

Relying on anecdotes of hot summer temperatures as evidence of global warming can be treacherous. The scorching heat in the eastern United States grabbed the headlines during the last week of June, but few noticed that on June 27, 116 cities from Montana to Florida measured record low temperatures. Orlando International Airport, for example, saw an overnight low of 64 degrees, shattering the previous record of 66 set in 1920. As sticky as June proved to be, it didn’t match the record set in 1933 when atmospheric carbon-dioxide concentration was less than it is today.

It’s easy to forget that at 3.8 million square miles, the United States comprises less than 2 percent of the Earth’s surface. Sizzling thermometer readings here don’t indicate temperature patterns elsewhere. Sweden’s Meteorological and Hydrological Institute recently reported that Swedes shivered through their chilliest June since weather statistics were first recorded in 1786, with an average daytime high of 56 degrees — three degrees below normal. At about the same distance from Washington as Stockholm, Anchorage, Alaska, hasn’t once seen the temperature rise to its normal average of 65 for this month, and is on pace to set a record low average temperature for July.

The severe thunderstorm that knocked out power to millions along the East Coast two weeks ago has provided fodder for policymakers like Maryland’s Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley to push their anti-industrial agenda. On July 11, Mr. O’Malley said, “A grid that was resilient for the weather of [the past] is not resilient enough to withstand violent storms that climate change and global warming in our atmosphere are causing today,” the Washington Examiner reported.

Even the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change would take issue with the governor’s assertion. The body published a special report in March admitting long-term weather trends “have not been attributed to natural or anthropogenic climate change.”

Complaining about the weather is human nature, but those looking for someone to blame for summer heat should tell it to Mother Nature.

Liberalism as mental illness – Tea Party Nation

English: The carbon footprint.

Liberalism as mental illness – Tea Party Nation.

Posted by Judson Phillips

We know liberals are nuts.  In fact calling them just plain crazy is an understatement.  Every now and then a liberal comes out with something so crazy and stupid that you just have to sit there and shake your head in amazement.

There is one liberal who may have made it into the liberal mental illness hall of fame.  Who is it and what did they do?

There is a liberal named Daphne Tremayne and she runs a website called Greentremayne.com.    Surely she is an Al Gore devote or maybe she has just learned from his carbon credits scam because guess what she is selling?

But she wants to tell us all how to live.

Her first suggestion:  do not have children.

That is probably really good advice for her as we definitely have too many stupid people in the world today.   But she takes it further.  She says:

If You Must Have Children, Buy Baby Credits

Baby Credits are similar to regular Carbon Credits, however, instead of being backed by non-productive parcels of land, Baby Credits are backed by non-productive women of child-bearing age.  We at GreenTremayne have contracted to purchase Fair Trade Baby Credits from tuberculosis sanatoriums in Africa, where quarantining has resulted in the segregation of male and female patients.  With every Baby Credit you purchase, you can have the peace of mind knowing that your money goes to support non-productive women in the developing world.  And because poverty is rampant in Africa, Baby Credits can be purchased at bargain prices.  Baby Credits make great shower gifts.  See our products page for more information about ordering Baby Credits!

What a scam!  This is certainly the validation of PT Barnum’s truism that there is a sucker born every minute and a fool and his money are soon parted.  Al Gore has made a fortune scamming people on this carbon credit nonsense.  This is much like the Middle Ages scam of selling indulgences.

But for Daphne Tremayne, the scamming goes straight into crazy with this next advice.

 Euthanize Your Old Pet

Pets have become a common feature in most homes and are an attribute of the modern, Western lifestyle.  We all love our dogs and cats, but really, when you think about it, pets are a major producer of excess carbon.  One of the best ways to reasonably enjoy your pet and reduce your overall Carbon Footprint is to determine in advance how long your pet should live.  As a family, set a date when your pet will be euthanized.  One great way to teach children the value of pet euthanasia is to turn the occasion into a family celebration.  Let’s say you’ve set March 10, five years from now, as your pet’s euthanasia date.   For the next five years, celebrate March 10 as your pet’s special day, with a family party and perhaps a visit to your pet’s future burial spot.  Teach your children to think of the occasion as a birthday in reverse.  A predetermined euthanasia date will encourage your family to love and care for your furry friend while it’s still young and playful.  What’s more, pre-planing for pet termination not only works towards reducing your family’s Carbon Footprint, but guarantees long term reduction in veterinary expenses.

 Is she insane?

Yes, I want to traumatize my kids by letting them know two years from now we are going to murder their beloved pet.  That makes so much sense.  Yes, Daphne, please do not breed.  You are too stupid to be a parent.  In fact, you probably should not make any decision any more important than deciding whether you should flush the toilet, though I doubt she does that by worrying she’ll use too much water.

The scary thought with the liberal nut jobs is where things go if you take their insane ideas to their logical conclusion.

Old people create a larger “carbon footprint.”  Liberals love to get rid of old people.    Look at Obamacare.  If you are a senior citizen, you can forget about life saving medical care.  All you get is comfort care under socialist healthcare.   Not only does socialist healthcare cause suffering and death, it allows socialists to reduce our carbon footprint.

It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to conclude that eventually, these nutjobs will use the same argument for scheduling senior citizens to be euthanized at a certain age.  But don’t get too upset, because every year for the rest of your pre-determined life, they’ll throw you a party to remind you that in just a few short years, they’ll terminate your time on this planet.

I have a suggestion for all of these liberals who are so obsessed with reducing carbon footprints.  Let’s start with them.

For people like Daphne Tremayne, if you are serious about reducing your carbon footprint, why don’t you move to a village in the Amazon River area?  You can be childless and petless there.  You can live without electricity or any of the modern conveniences that you think cause all of the world’s problems.

Of course, liberals like Daphne Tremayne are not going to do that.   They will not give up their designer clothes or their nice homes or their computers, TV’s, Iphones, IPads and other modern toys.

They simply want everyone else to suffer.  Liberals love to claim how fair they are.  Yet everywhere liberals are, they want to do the same thing.  They want others to suffer while they are the elite class.

Liberals are not only nuts they are hypocrites.  If you doubt, just look at them, what they say and more importantly what they believe.

 Then be very afraid.

Earth Summit Babble – Tea Party Nation

Earth Summit Babble – Tea Party Nation.

By Alan Caruba

Why anyone still believes anything the UN Environmental Program and its Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has to say is one of those great imponderable questions. To prepare you for the flood of totally idiotic predictions to which you will be treated during the June 20-21 Earth Summit, here are just a few and I strongly advise you to ignore all of them.

A 550-page preparatory UN report, put together by “600 experts”, the Global Environmental Outlook—intended to soften up global suckers—predicts that Earth’s environmental systems are nearly at “their biophysical limits” thus subjecting the Earth to “irreversible and possibly cataclysmic world changes” and “If humanity does not urgently change its ways” it is doomed.

Notably, the Earth Summit will abandon “global warming” and “climate change” as its main theme and instead focus on “sustainability”, the utterly bogus notion that humans are using up all of the Earth’s resources.

The people most famous for really bad predictions these days are environmentalists. Rachel Carson kicked it off fifty years ago with her book, “Silent Spring”, assuring everyone that all the birds would fall dead out of the sky because of pesticide use. These days they are more likely to be chopped to shreds by wind turbines.

Ever since the early days of environmental hysteria just about every awful scenario cooked up in the fevered brains of the Greens has become front page news. There is method to their madness and it comes down to a simple equation: Scaring People Equals Money and Power.

Environmentalism is all about controlling you while picking your pocket. By any other name it is Socialism or its big brother Communism. It depends on lies backed up by a massive propaganda machine, funded by ultra-wealthy foundations, by governments who support Green programs of all sorts, and by the members of an endless succession of environmental organizations.

For example, you may recall that global warming, a massive heating of the Earth due to carbon dioxide and other “greenhouse gas emissions” was predicted to occur twenty, thirty or fifty years hence when the hoax kicked off in the late 1980s. Keep that in mind when the Rio+20 United Nations Earth Summit is held in Rio de Janeiro, the site of the first conference.

Supported by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the so-called “scientists” backed up their claims with all manner of computer models, dubious graphs, and tons of “scientific” papers to convince governments and people that massive changes had to occur—primarily a huge reduction in the use of fossil fuels—or we were all doomed.

Exposed in November 2009 by the “Climategate” release of thousands of emails between the perpetrators, I still find it astonishing that not one single member of this conspiracy has gone to jail. Indeed, in 2007 the IPCC and Al Gore shared a Nobel Peace Prize.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has issued a formal request that all the “researchers” who contributed to the global warming hoax be granted immunity from prosecution. Unbelievable, eh?

Back in 1956, a geologist named M. King Hubbert released the findings of his calculations to let the world know that U.S. oil production would “peak” between 1965 and 1970. It didn’t. What has since slowed oil production in the U.S. has been the refusal of the Obama administration to issue the permits necessary to drill on federal lands and offshore. The world is afloat on an ocean of oil and, in addition, the U.S. is not running out of coal or natural gas.

Similarly, all the population predictions made by Prof. Paul R. Erhlich and his wife in 1968 have proven false as well. A colleague of his, Dr. John Holdren, is the science advisor to the President. One of the central themes of environmentalism is that humanity is to blame for harming the Earth and that there are too many people.

The other theme is that all these people are “consuming” too much of the Earth’s natural resources and should be penned up in cities and kept out of most places on Earth in order to protect its “endangered species”, etc. Meanwhile, as this is being written, huge sections of western states’ forests are going up in flames thanks to Mother Nature setting off fires off with lightning strikes.

Does it surprise anyone that the Earth Summit is calling for a “climate fund” and wants nations to kick in $100 billion? The proposal for the fund called “The Earth We Want” covers an extraordinary range of topics that includes gender equality, woman’s empowerment, and all the usual social justice and environmental clap-trap that is intended to ensnare everyone in a web of laws, regulations, and treaties aimed directly at eliminating the freedoms the West has and that many in other parts of the world want.

There is one good reason to not ignore the Earth Summit. They are telling you just what kind of an Orwellian and totalitarian world they have in mind for you.

EPA Threatens to Wreck Nation’s Auto Fleet – Tea Party Nation

EPA Threatens to Wreck Nation’s Auto Fleet – Tea Party Nation.

By Alan Caruba

One can hardly get through the week without learning of yet another absurd new program by the Environmental Protection Agency. The latest is a five percent increase in the amount of ethanol that must be added to the nation’s supply of gasoline.

In 2010, even Al Gore told a business conference in Athens that his previous support for blending ethanol with gasoline as a Senator from Tennessee was a mistake and based on a political decision concerning the support of farmers in his home state. At the time he spoke, corn ethanol subsidies to farmers represented $7.7 billion.

Ethanol was touted as yet another way to offset “greenhouse gas” emissions and prevent “global warming.” In 2010, ethanol production consumed an estimated 41 percent of the U.S. corn crop and 15 percent of the global corn crop.

The obvious result has been to drive up the cost of all food products that include corn and its derivatives. And there neither was nor is any “global warming”!

Two years later there is still no “global warming”, but the EPA has never been deterred by real science such as the fact that the Earth has been cooling since 1998. E15 is a diabolical mandate that will do widespread damage to autos using it and to the pumping and storage facilities to distribute it. And it is occurring as the market for ethanol is stalling.

It is by any definition, a criminal act by a rogue federal agency.

The Science Committee of the House of Representatives is trying to prevent the implementation of the EPA E15 mandate. This comes after more than 30 years of blending ethanol at a ten percent rate into gasoline; three decades of a blend that actually produces less mileage at the same time the production of ethanol generates the same level of carbon in the atmosphere as burning gasoline without ethanol.

The E115 mandate should trouble anyone with an automobile, motorcycle, outdoor or any equipment that runs on gasoline. Last summer, Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WIS) sent the EPA administrator, Lisa Jackson, letters from car companies expressing their opposition.

“Ford does not support the introduction of E15 into the marketplace for the legacy fleet…Fuel not approved in the owner’s manual is considered misfueling and any damage resulting from misfueling is not covered by the warranty.” Both Chrysler and Honda sent comparable letters with the latter noting “There appears to be the potential for engine failure.”

E15 will be restricted to autos of the vehicle model year 2001 and later. The Obama administration set a goal “to help fueling station owners install 10,000 blender pumps over the next five years”, but the real question is why would any government even consider doing something that represents millions in damage to automobiles using it?

Additionally, why should Congress continue to provide ethanol subsidies to its producers when the evidence of the passed thirty years use has not only demonstrated that it reduces the mileage that pure gasoline would provide and, more importantly, serves no purpose whatever regarding the non-existent “global warming” that is the sole justification for the blend?

The answer is that the EPA does not care that as many as five million cars in the current fleet could suffer damage and total engine failure which is not covered by their warranties.

The EPA is the Obama administration’s tip of the sword in its war on the use of all fossil fuels for any reason. It has nothing to do with science. It portends to wreak further havoc on drivers and the economy.

What is desperately needed is the complete reform of the EPA before it further threatens the safely, health, and lives of Americans.
