Some stories are simply too good.  And this is one of those.

 Sandra Fluke went to Nevada.   You remember her.   She is the 30 year old unemployed woman who wants America to pay for her birth control pills. 

 For some reason the Obama campaign thinks American can’t get enough of her.

 Yes, actually we have had too much of her.

 Sandra Fluke, the woman at the center of a media firestorm earlier this year after Rush Limbaugh called her a “slut,” spoke Saturday in front of about 10 people at the Sak ‘N Save in north Reno.

The speech was part of a daylong effort by Democrats to get Northern Nevadans to the polls on the first day of early voting.

“I’m trying to do everything I can for an election that I feel is very important. I have a unique opportunity for how I get to do that,” said Fluke, who is coming off recent campaign trips to Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire and Florida as a surrogate for Democratic President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign.

Fluke emerged on the national spotlight in February when she was denied to speak before the U.S. House committee on Oversight and Government Reform on whether insurance plans should have a mandate to cover contraceptives. She eventually spoke to House Democrats.

Rush Limbaugh called her a “slut” and “prostitute” on his show based on her comments on contraception for women. He later apologized, saying it was an “attempt to be humorous.”

Fluke doesn’t take the jabs too seriously. When asked about her previous year and how people have treated her in the press, Fluke smiled and laughed.

“It’s been not quite the 2012 that I’ve expected,” she said.

Fluke has embraced the spotlight, though. She spoke at the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina and has enjoyed talks with people on the campaign trail — especially those concerning women’s issues.

 That is a magnificent crowd.  10 whole people. 

 The stunning truth that the Obama Regime cannot grasp is that women (and for that matter men) are not worried about the government paying for birth control pills.

 Women (and men) are worried about the Great Obama Depression.   In the almost six years since the Democrats took control of Congress, and especially since Obama was elected, the economy has collapsed.  We have lost jobs and not made them up.  Food stamp usage is up 64% since Obama took over.   Welfare spending is up 32%. 

 The economy is a wreck.

 No one cares about a 30 year old woman who wants America to pay for her birth control.

 We are all worried about having jobs to pay our bills.

A North Carolina elementary school forced a preschool student to eat cafeteria chicken nuggets for lunch on Jan. 30 after officials reportedly determined that her homemade meal wasn’t up to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s standards for healthfulness, according to a report from the Carolina Journal.

The newspaper reported that the four-year-old girl brought a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, potato chips and apple juice in her packed lunch from home. That meal didn’t meet with approval from the government agent who was on site inspecting kids’ lunches that day.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Child Development and Early Education requires that all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs must meet USDA guidelines. Meals, the guidelines say, must include one serving each of meat, milk and grain and two servings of fruit or vegetables. Those guidelines apply to home-packed lunches as well as cafeteria meals.

The Carolina Journal reported that the girl and her mother wish to remain anonymous to avoid public scrutiny, but she did write to her state representative to complain about it.

“I don’t feel that I should pay for a cafeteria lunch when I provide lunch for her from home,” the mother wrote in a complaint to her state representative, Republican G.L. Pridgen of Robeson County.

“What got me so mad is, number one, don’t tell my kid I’m not packing her lunch box properly,” the girl’s mother told a reporter. “I pack her lunchbox according to what she eats. It always consists of a fruit. It never consists of a vegetable. She eats vegetables at home because I have to watch her because she doesn’t really care for vegetables.”

The story has sparked national outrage against bureaucrats and politicians who aim to force food standards and health initiatives into place through legislation and regulatory action. North Carolina Republican Party spokesman Rob Lockwood told The Daily Caller it’s the latest example of why government “intrusion” isn’t helping anyone.

“More parental inclusion, less government intrusion would go a long way to solving our nation’s woes,” Lockwood said in an email. “Today is not a strong day for big-government, nanny-state enthusiasts.”

America has too much democracy for liberals

Liberals have isolated the problem in American politics today: There is just too much democracy. The incessant demands of the unwashed masses are far too distracting for the philosopher kings in the government to get any work done.

North Carolina Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue now claims she was joking when she suggested that congressional elections be suspended to remove the inconvenient pressure of public opinion from the backs of harried legislators. “I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” she said this week. “You want people who don’t worry about the next election.”

The governor’s twisted logic aside, any member of Congress can choose to do what he believes to be the right thing and not worry about the next election. Mrs. Perdue wants incompetent legislators to have the opportunity not only to engage in unpopular behavior but never to have to pay a price for it. They get to have their cake and tell the electorate to eat it.

Former White House Budget Director Peter Orszag chimed in this week with his suggestion that to solve the country’s problems, “we need to minimize the harm from legislative inertia by relying more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions. In other words, radical as it sounds, we need to counter the gridlock of our political institutions by making them a bit less democratic.” Mr. Orszag is attempting to make a virtue out of cowardice, allowing legislators to hand off the hard questions to others while retaining their seats in Congress to hand out favors and make ceremonial proclamations. Despite Mr. Orszag’s romantic pretensions, this escapism is anything but radical; it is an incumbent-protection program.

Californians will have the chance to mull over a truly radical program courtesy of the Think Long Committee. This group is proposing the formation of a 21-member independent body appointed to six-year terms to serve as a type of government overseer. The committee – which would be free to focus on the big picture rather than engaging in endless crisis management – would have the power to propose legislation, put initiatives on the ballot and, most important, subpoena and investigate government performance. Thus, rather than representatives having to fawn over voters, they would instead learn to fear the investigative arm of this unelected committee. You don’t have to think very long to see how this type of power could be abused. Men are not angels, as James Madison reminded. If implemented, Think Long’s proposal would simply hasten the spiraling decline of the Golden State.

Politicians and utopian theorists like to suppose they are important, significant and necessary, but in the grand scheme of things, they are not. Any number of other people could do their jobs, and probably do them better judging by the state of things. If elected officials approached their responsibilities with humility and a sense of their own irrelevance to the daily lives of most Americans, we would have a country that is much better governed. Public functionaries should understand they are the servants of the people, not the other way around.

Do you want to know how Democrats really feel about elections?  Do you want to know what Democrats really feel about giving the people a voice in the government?

 As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending congressional elections for the next couple of years.

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, N.C., according to the Raleigh News & Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”

Perdue said she thinks that temporarily halting elections would allow members of Congress to focus on the economy. “You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things,” Perdue said.

North Carolina Republicans immediately scoffed at Perdue’s proposal, pointing out to her that elections hold politicians accountable for their actions.

 Cancelling elections they are going to lose is what dictators do.   Bev Perdue’s suggestion that elections be cancelled as more to do with the knowledge that in this next election the Democrats are going to be punished by the American people who reject their socialism.

 Perdue’s spokesman has come out now, saying she was only joking.

 Here is Perdue’s full statement.  You decide if she was joking.

 Bev Perdue’s statement was not a joke.  It was indefensible.  If she had a shred of decency she would resign immediately.  Of course, she is a liberal so she has no decency.

 No elected official should ever suggest we postpone elections in this country.  That is something that is beyond the pale and is the kind of statement that should cost any politician their job.

 Governor Perdue, resign immediately.
